How to Create and Manage Certificates and Gamification

The Engagement module in Learnly helps organizations recognize and motivate learners through certificates, badges, points, and leaderboards. Administrators can create certificate templates, issue certificates, configure gamification rules, and reward learners for their achievements and learning progress.

This article explains how to manage certificates, badges, point allocation rules, and leaderboards within Learnly.

Access Engagement

  1. Log in to your Learnly account.

  2. Navigate to People.

  3. Click Engagement.

The Engagement page contains the following sections:

  • Certificate Templates

  • Manual Certificate Issuance

  • Gamification

  • Leaderboard

Create a Certificate Template

Certificate templates allow you to generate branded certificates for course completions.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PeopleEngagement.

  2. Under Certificate Templates, click + Create Certificate.

  3. Choose a certificate creation method:

    • Standard – Use a predefined certificate design.

    • Design with Canvas – Create a custom certificate design.

  4. Select a certificate design.

  5. Personalize the certificate template as needed.

  6. Review the certificate layout and content.

  7. Click Save Certificate Template.

The certificate template will be available when issuing certificates to learners.

Issue Certificates Manually

Administrators can manually award certificates to learners who have completed a course.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PeopleEngagement.

  2. Under Issue Manually, click Issue Certificates.

  3. Select the Certificate Type.

  4. Choose the completed Course.

  5. Select a Certificate Template.

  6. Enter one or more learner email addresses.

    • Separate multiple email addresses using commas or new lines.

  7. (Optional) Enable Send Email Notification to Learners.

  8. Review the information.

  9. Click Issue Certificates.

Certificates will be generated and issued to the selected learners.

Create a Badge

Badges provide visual recognition when learners achieve specific milestones.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PeopleEngagement.

  2. Under Badges Management, click Create New Badge.

  3. Enter a Badge Name.

  4. Choose a Badge Icon (Emoji).

  5. Select a Badge Background Color.

  6. Add a Description.

  7. Enter the Required Points learners must earn to receive the badge.

  8. Click Create Badge.

The badge will be added to your gamification program.

Edit or Delete a Badge

Steps

  1. Navigate to PeopleEngagement.

  2. Locate the badge you want to manage.

  3. Choose one of the available actions:

    • Edit – Update badge details.

    • Delete – Remove the badge from the system.

Changes are applied immediately after saving.

Configure Point Allocation Rules

Point rules determine how learners earn points for different learning activities.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PeopleEngagement.

  2. Under Point Allocation Rules, locate the activity you want to configure.

  3. Enter the number of points learners should receive.

  4. Enable or disable the rule using the Active option.

Available activities include:

  • Hour of Learning

  • Lesson Completed

  • Daily Login

  • Learning Path Completed

  • Quiz Passed

  1. Review all point values.

  2. Click Save Changes.

The updated point rules will be applied to future learner activities.

View the Leaderboard

The leaderboard highlights top-performing learners based on earned points and achievements.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PeopleEngagement.

  2. Open the Leaderboard section.

  3. Review the list of top-performing learners.

The leaderboard automatically updates as learners earn points and badges.

  • Use branded certificate templates to maintain a professional learning experience.

  • Issue certificates promptly after course completion.

  • Create badges that align with meaningful learning milestones.

  • Configure point values that encourage consistent learner engagement.

  • Regularly review leaderboard rankings to recognize top performers.

  • Balance rewards across different learning activities to encourage participation.

The Engagement module helps organizations create a rewarding learning environment through certificates, badges, points, and recognition programs. By combining achievement-based rewards with gamification features, administrators can increase learner motivation, encourage participation, and celebrate learning success across the organization.
