How to Integrate Credly with Learnly
The Credly integration allows you to automatically issue digital badges to learners when they complete courses. Once connected, you can map badges to courses, making it easy to recognize learner achievements without manual effort.
This guide walks you through creating an API token in Credly, connecting your Credly account to Learnly, and configuring badge mappings.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
A Credly account with administrator access.
Permission to create API credentials in Credly.
Administrator access to Learnly.
Create an API Token in Credly
Step 1: Sign in to Credly
Log in to your Credly administrator account.
Open your account or organization settings.
Navigate to API Applications or Developer Settings (location may vary depending on your Credly account).
Step 2: Generate an API Token
Click Create API Token (or Generate Token).
Give the token a descriptive name such as Learnly Integration
Copy the generated API Token.
Store it securely, as you may not be able to view it again after leaving the page.
Note: Keep your API token confidential. Anyone with access to it can interact with your Credly account.
Step 3: Find Your Issuer ID
In Credly, open your organization's Issuer settings.
Copy the Issuer ID associated with your badge issuer.
You will use this value while configuring the integration.
Configure the Integration
Step 4: Open Integrations
Navigate to 'Global Settings' → 'Integrations'.
Step 5: Open Credly Integration Settings
Open 'Credly' from here.
Step 6: Enter Your Credly
Enter the required credentials, including the 'Issuer ID' and 'API Token'.
Step 7: Configure Additional Options
Complete the following optional settings before enabling the integration:
Email Recipients on Badge Issuance – Enable this option to automatically notify learners by email whenever a Credly badge is issued.
Webhook Verification Secret – Use the generated secret to verify incoming webhook requests from Credly. You can 'Copy' the secret or 'Regenerate' it if needed. If you regenerate the secret, be sure to update it in your Credly webhook configuration.
Active Integration – Turn on 'Active Integration' to enable communication between Learnly and Credly. When enabled, eligible learners automatically receive the mapped badges upon course completion.
Step 8: Verify the Connection
Click 'Connect & Verify'. If the credentials are valid, Learnly establishes a secure connection with Credly.
Step 9: Save the Configuration
Click 'Save Settings' to apply your integration settings. Your Credly integration is now ready to use.
Configure Badge Mappings
Step 10: Open Badge Mapping
After the connection is established, configure which Credly badge should be awarded when learners complete a course.
Open the 'Badge Mappings' tab and click '+ Add Mapping'.
Step 11: Add Badge Mapping
Select a 'Course', enter the 'Badge Template ID', configure any optional fields as needed, and click 'Create'.
When a learner completes the mapped course, Learnly automatically issues the selected badge through Credly.
Verify the Integration
To confirm everything is working correctly:
- Complete a mapped course using a test learner account.
- Verify that the learner receives the assigned Credly badge.
- If email notifications are enabled, confirm that the learner also receives the badge notification email.
Troubleshooting
Verify the Issuer ID is correct.
Ensure the API Token is active and hasn't expired.
Confirm the API Base URL is
https://api.credly.com.
Badges are not issued
Make sure Active Integration is enabled.
Verify that the course has an active badge mapping.
Confirm the learner has successfully completed the mapped course.
Webhook validation errors
Ensure the webhook verification secret matches the value configured in Credly.
If the secret was regenerated, update it in Credly before testing again.
You've successfully integrated Credly with Learnly and configured badge mappings for your courses. Learners who complete mapped courses will now automatically receive their assigned digital badges, helping you recognize achievements and streamline credential management.
